Known as the Côte Vermeille, the last few kilometres of shore before Spain, where the Pyrenees sweep down to the sea, once held a handful of attractive seaside villages. Tourism has put paid to that, though this does mean that all are well served by buses and trains from Perpignan. Travelling south, Argèles is the first resort you come to, but you're best off passing straight through and on to the fishing towns of Collioure, Port-Vendres and Banyuls. Pages in section ‘Côte Vermeille’: Argelès and Collioure, Port-Vendres and Banyuls.
Alternate spellings:: coast, cote, coste, vermeill, vermeil, varmeille
