The final town of any size in Finistère, QUIMPERLÉ straddles a hill and two rivers, the Isole and the Elle, cut by a sequence of bridges. It's an atmospheric place, particularly in the medieval muddle of streets around Ste-Croix church. This was copied in plan from schema brought back by crusaders of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and is notable for its original Romanesque apse. There are some good bars nearby and, on Fridays, a market on the square higher up on the hill.Reasonable rooms can be had at Le Brizeux, 7 quai Brizeux (tel 02.98.96.19.25; €3040), and Le Kervidanou, in the village of Mellac 5km northwest (tel 02.98.39.18.00; €4055). The nicest campsite in the vicinity is the two-star, British-owned Bois des Ecureuils (tel 02.98.71.70.98, closed mid-Sept to mid-May), 15km northeast in the verdant countryside at Guilligomarch, north of Arzano. Alternate spellings:: France, Quimperlé, Quimperlé, Quimperle
