It's hard to resist the appeal of the Finistère coast, with its ocean-fronting cliffs and headlands. Summer crowds may detract from the best parts of the Crozon peninsula and the Pointe de Raz, but there are many kilometres of coast where you can enjoy near solitude. If you have transport, explore the semi-wilderness of the northern stretches beyond Brest and the little fishing village of Le Conquet, or take a ferry trip to the misty offshore islands of Ouessant, Molène and Sein. From the top of Ménez-Hom you can admire the anarchic limits of western France, while the cities of Morlaix and Quimper display modern Breton life as well as ancient splendours, and the parish closes south of Morlaix reveal much about the beliefs of the past.
