France for visitors

South towards Quimper
France > Brittany > Finistère > South towards Quimper

Moving south of the Crozon peninsula, you soon enter the ancient kingdom of Cornouaille. The most direct route to the region's principal city, Quimper, leaves the sea behind and heads due south, passing close to the unchanged medieval village of Locronan. However, if you can spare the time, it's worth following the supremely isolated coastline instead around the Baie de Douarnenez to the Pointe du Raz, the western tip of Finistère. With a few exceptions – most notably its "land's end" capes – this stretch of coast has kept out of the tourist mainstream, and nowhere does that hold more true than on the remarkable, remote Île de Sein.

Pages in section ‘South towards Quimper’: Locronan, Douarnenez, Baie des Trépassés, Audierne, Île de Sein.
