France for visitors

Inter-Rail pass
France > Basics > Getting around > By train > Rail passes > Inter-Rail pass

These passes are only available to European residents, and you will be asked to provide proof of residency before being allowed to purchase one. They come in over-26 and (cheaper) under-26 versions, and cover 29 European countries grouped together in zones, of which France is in Zone E along with Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

The passes are available for 12 or 22 days (one zone only), or 1 month and you can purchase up to 3 zones or a global pass covering all zones. You can save £5 by booking via the Inter-Rail website (www.inter-rail.co.uk). Inter-Rail passes do not include travel within your country of residence, though pass holders are eligible for a 50 percent discount on fares to and from the border of the relevant zone as well as reductions on Eurostar and cross-Channel ferries.
