Arrival, information and accommodation France > Pyrénées > Pays Basque > Côte Basque > Biarritz > Arrival, information and accommodationThe gare SNCF is 3km southeast of the centre at the end of avenue Foch/avenue Kennedy in the quartier known as La Négresse (STAB bus #2 or #9 from square d'Ixelles). The tourist office is on square d'Ixelles (daily: mid-June to Sept 10am6pm; Oct to mid-June MonSat 10am6pm, Sun 10am5pm; tel 05.59.22.37.00), in the vicinity of the casino. You can rent bikes and scooters at Sobilo (tel 05.59.24.94.47) at 24 rue Peyroloubilh.Accommodation is heavily booked in July and August, but is less expensive than you might expect. Le Petit Hotel, 11 rue Gardères (tel 05.59.24.87.00, www.petithotel-biarritz.com; €3040), is a stone's throw from the Grand Plage and a good place to start. Nearby is the equally welcoming Hôtel Palym at 7 rue du Port-Vieux (tel 05.59.24.16.56, fax 05.59.24.96.12; €3040), with a variety of old-fashioned rooms and a ground-floor bar-restaurant. Better value, and quieter than any of these is the Belle Époque Hôtel Atalaye at 6 rue des Goélands (tel 05.59.24.06.76, fax 05.59.22.33.51; €3040). Finally, those looking for a little more luxury should head for the small but well-appointed Maison Garnier (tel 05.59.01.60.70, www.hotel-biarritz.com; €7085) set in a refurbished bourgeouis home at no. 29 on the main rue Gambetta. The nearest HI hostel (tel 05.59.41.76.07, [email protected]) is 2km southwest of the centre on the shore of Lac Mouriscot, just walkable from the gare SNCF; otherwise take bus #2 from the centre, stop "Bois de Boulogne". Campers should try Biarritz-Camping, at 28 route d'Harcet, the inland continuation of avenue de la Plage (tel 05.59.23.00.12, www.biarritz-camping.fr; closed late-Sept to mid-May), behind Plage de la Milady, to the south of town.
