The restaurant to head for is Le Bateleur, 1 place Théodore-Aubanel, downstream from the Pont Romain on the north bank (tel 04.90.36.28.04; closed Mon, Tues, Fri lunch & mid-Nov to mid-Dec; weekday lunch menu €16, à la carte around €35); the lamb stuffed with almonds and the rascasse (scorpion fish) soufflé are highly recommended. Alternatively, L'Auberge de la Bartavelle, 12 place Sus-Auze (tel 04.90.36.02.16; closed Mon & mid-Nov to mid-Dec), has specialities from southwest France for between €19 and €45, while salads and pizzas can by picked up at Charlie's Pub, 12 av Général-de-Gaulle (open 8am3am), as well as traditional plats for around €10. You can get crêpes and pizzas in the old town and brasserie fare on place de Montfort, the obvious drinking place to gravitate towards. For a more local atmosphere, try Vasio Bar on cours Taulignan.
