Arrival, information and accommodation
France > Provence > Western > Vaison > Information

Buses to and from Carpentras, Orange and Avignon stop at the gare routière on avenue des Choralies near the junction with avenue Victor-Hugo, east of the town centre on the north side of the river. The tourist office is on place du Chanoine-Sautel (July & Aug daily 9am–12.30pm & 2–6.45pm; Sept–June Mon–Sat 9am–noon & 2–5.45pm, Sun 9am–noon; tel 04.90.36.02.11, www.vaison-la-romaine.com), between the two archeological sites in the north of the modern town.

There's not a great choice of hotels in Vaison, and few bargains. The town's best hotel and restaurant is Le Beffroi, a sixteenth-century residence on rue de l'Évêché in the haute ville (tel 04.90.36.04.71, [email protected]; €85–100; closed Jan to mid-March), while Fête en Provence, a restaurant in the haute ville also rents out rooms (tel 04.90.36.36.43, www.la-fete-en-provence.com; €40–55). You'll find alternative accommodation at the Centre Culturel à Coecur Joie on route de St-Marcellin, 1km east of town down avenue Geoffroy from the Pont Romain (tel 04.90.36.00.78, [email protected]; €55–70), which offers simple rooms. For campers, there's the central Camping du Théâtre Romain on chemin du Brusquet, off av des Choralies, Quartier des Arts (tel 04.90.28.78.66, fax 04.90.28.78.76; closed Nov to mid-March, €16.60 for two people and a tent).
