Rue Saint-Martin
For food, cheap pizzas, pasta and more expensive seafood platters can be had at Chez Daniel, rue Segond Weber (closed Tues eve & Wed), while Le Yaca, 24 place Silvain (tel 04.90.34.70.03; closed Wed, plus Tues off-season & Nov), gives a generous choice of dishes for €21 or less in an old vaulted chamber. However, the best food you're likely to get in Orange is at Le Parvis, 3 cours des Pourtoules (tel 04.90.34.82.00; closed Sun eve & Mon), with a weekday lunch menu from €15. For drinking, head for place de la République in the centre, where there's Les Négociants and the less expensive Café de l'Univers, painted in Provençal yellow. On the other side of cours Aristide-Briand, the Café des Thermes, 29 rue des Vieux-Fossés, has pool, a good selection of beers and a youngish clientele.

Orange's main festival is the Chorégies, a programme of opera, oratorios and orchestral concerts in July – details and tickets from the Bureau des Chorégies, 18 place Silvain (tel 04.90.34.24.24, www.choregies.asso.fr). The theatre is also used throughout the year for jazz, film, folk and rock concerts. Prices range from €10–46, and some performances are free; details from the Service Culturel de la Ville, 14 place Silvain (tel 04.90.51.57.57). Tickets for all events can be bought from FNAC shops in all big French cities, and at the theatre box office in Orange.
