Description : A stone throw away from the french-italian border, villa Maria Serena was built in the 1880 by Charles Garnier, the architect of the Garnier opera in Paris and of the Casino in Monte-Carlo, for his friend Ferdinand de Lesseps, who built both the Suez and Panama canals. The last owner, Henry Konig, donated the villa and its park to the city of Menton with the words "After having spent 17 happy years in Menton, I leave Maria Serena to the city as a token of my gratitude".
