Description : The site of Filitosa in Corsica was first settled by Neolithic farmers who lived here in rock shelters until the arrival of navigators from the east in about 3500 BC. These invaders were the creators of the menhirs (large stone statue), the earliest of which were possibly phallic symbols worshipped by an ancient fertility cult. The picture shows on the of the few of these menhirs still standing - they still make for an impressive sight. More...
