Trocadero
Between place du Trocadéro and the place de l'Alma, two rather ugly 1930s "palaces" are each home to a couple of museums. The Palais de Chaillot, which faces the Eiffel Tower across the river, houses museums of naval history and anthropology, and will soon add the state-of-the-art Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine to the collection. Just to the east, the Palais de Tokyo houses the even more cutting-edge Site de Création Contemporaine, an exhibition space for contemporary art, as well as the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the city's own museum of modern art. Between the two palaces, the superbly revamped Musée Guimet boasts a stunning display of Oriental and especially Buddhist art.
