The largest section by far is Painting, divided into two areas on opposite sides of the museum, one devoted to French and Northern European painting, the other to Italian, Spanish and large-scale nineteenth-century French works. Interspersed throughout are rooms dedicated to the Louvre's impressive collection of Prints and Drawings, including prized sketches and preliminary drawings by Ingres and Rubens and some attributed to Leonardo da Vinci. Because of their susceptibility to the light, the drawings are exhibited in rotation. Pages in section ‘Painting’: French painting, Northern European painting, Italian and Spanish painting, Mona Lisa, French Nationalism and Romanticism.
