Accommodation in Paris France > Paris > Hotels
Accommodation in Paris is often booked up well in advance, particularly in the spring and autumn. It's wise to reserve a place as early as you can, particularly if you fancy staying in one of the more characterful places. You can simply call all receptionists speak some English but it's also worth bearing in mind that more and more places offer online booking as well. If you book by phone, many hotels will ask for a credit card number, others for written or faxed confirmation, while a few inexpensive places may even ask for a deposit to be sent in the post. If you're stuck, the main tourist office at Champs-Élysées and the branches at Gare de Lyon and the Eiffel Tower will find you a room: all book accommodation for that day only, and you have to turn up at the office in person (€38 commission for a hotel room depending on the number of stars, €1.20 for a hostel). Alternatively, the student travel agency OTU Voyages, at 119 rue St-Martin, opposite the Pompidou Centre, 4e (MonFri 9.30am6.30pm, Sat 10am5pm; tel 08.25.00.40.24, www.otu.fr; M° Châtelet-Les Halles) and at 39 av Georges Bernanos, 5e (tel 08.25.00.40.27; M° Port Royal) can find inexpensive rooms for a fee of €12.
