The big international car rental companies have offices at the airports and at several locations in the city. Avis (tel 01.46.10.60.60, www.avis.com), located at Gare du Nord, do good weekend prices: their "Parisien weekend" car rental extends from noon on Thursday to noon on Tuesday, with two days working out at around €60 per day, to five days at about €45 per day. Other big names are listed in the "Directory".North Americans and Australians in parti-cular should be forewarned that it's difficult to rent a car with automatic transmission in France; if you can't drive a manual, try and book an automatic well in advance, possibly before you leave home, and be prepared to pay a much higher price for it.
