For running or jogging, the Jardin du Luxembourg, Tuileries and Champs de Mars are particularly popular with Parisians: all provide decent, varied runs, and are more or less flat. If you want to run hills, head for the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont in the 19e or Parc Montsouris in the 14e for plenty of suitably punishing gradients. If you have easy access to them, the Bois de Boulogne and the Bois de Vincennes are the largest open spaces, though both are cut through by a number of roads. The Paris Marathon is held in April over a route from place de la Concorde to Vincennes. If you want to join in and need details and equipment, check out www.paris-marathon.com, where you can register to run. A half-marathon is held in early March, and "Les 20km de Paris", takes place in mid-October, beginning and ending at the Eiffel Tower.
