The permanent collections at all municipal museums are free all year round. The museums are: Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Maison de Balzac, Musée Carnavalet, Musée Cognac Jay, Musée de la Vie Romantique, Musée Zadkine, Maison de Victor Hugo, and Musée Jean Moulin. All national museums are free the first Sunday of the month, including the Louvre, Pompidou Centre, and the Picasso and Rodin museums; see www.rmn.fr for a full list.

Churches, cemeteries and, of course, markets are free (except for some specialist annual antique and book markets). Most parks are free but some gardens within have small entry charges, usually around €1.50. Libraries and the cultural centres of different countries put on films, shows and exhibitions for next to nothing; most libraries themselves are free, but some have entry charges – in such cases a day-pass might cost around €4. Other free cultural offerings appear regularly, from bands in the streets to firework shows, courtesy of the Mairie de Paris (publicized on the electronic billboards around Paris).
