Sewers: place de la Résistance, on the corner of quai d'Orsay and the Pont de l'Alma, 7e. May–Sept Mon–Wed, Sat & Sun 11am–5pm; Oct–April same days 11am–4pm; closed the last three weeks in Jan; €4/€2.30; M° Alma-Marceau.

Horror fanatics and ghouls should get a really satisfying shudder from the catacombs. The archetypal pre-teen fixation, on the other hand, can be indulged in the sewers – les égouts. They are dank, damp, dripping, claustrophobic and filled with echoes: just the sort of place kids love.
