26 rue Vavin, 6e. M° Vavin. A block of flats decked in white and blue tiles, with terraced balconies filled with exuberant gardens in the air. Built by Henri Sauvage in 1912.

Rue Schoelcher and rue Froidevaux, 14e. M° Raspail & M° Denfert-Rochereau. An excellent selection of nineteenth- and twentieth-century styles, of particular note being 5, 5bis and 11 rue Schoelcher, 11 and 23 rue Froidevaux, this last a 1930s block of artists' studios, with huge windows for northern light and fabulous ceramic mosaics.

266 boulevard Raspail, 14e. M° Raspail & M° Denfert-Rochereau. An interior design school with a marked Beaubourg influence: external stairs and blue pipe columns in front, plus the 1990s delight of glass and metal shuttering.

31 rue Campagne-Première, 14e. M° Raspail. A myriad of earthenware tiles cover the concrete structure of these desirable 1912 appartements with huge windows.
