The gares routière and SNCF are adjacent to each other, just a few minutes' walk away from the centre of town: cross the wide River Oise and go up rue Solférino to place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville. The tourist office (EasterSept MonSat 9.15am12.15pm & 1.456.15pm, Sun 10am1pm & 2.305pm; OctEaster MonSat 9.15am12.15pm & 1.455.15pm, closed Mon morning and Sun, open Sun in October; tel 03.44.40.01.00) takes up part of the ornate Hôtel de Ville and, for a small fee, will provide you with a plan of the town, on which is conveniently marked an exhaustive visitors' route, including the forest paths.As for accommodation, there are cheap rooms at the Hôtel St-Antoine, 17 rue de Paris (tel 03.44.23.22.27; under €30), concealed above a Thai restaurant; and the Lion d'Or, 4 rue du Général-Leclerc (tel 03.44.23.32.17; under €30). More comfortable is the Hôtel de Flandre, an enormous place on the riverside at 16 quai de la République (tel 03.44.83.24.40, fax 03.44.90.02.75; €4055).
