The GR du Littoral footpath passes through Wissant and continues up to Cap Gris-Nez, just 28km from the English coast. To get to the cape by road, take the turn-off 1km outside AUDINGHEN, from where it's a three-kilometre walk, drive or cycle.Just after the Cap Gris-Nez turn-off beside the D940 is one of the many massive concrete bunkers, or Blockhäuser, which stud the length of the Côte d'Opale, and which were part of the German World War II defences known as the Atlantic Wall. Equipped with a gun that could hit the English coast, it has been converted into a rather rough-and-ready museum (daily: JuneSept 9am7pm; OctMay 9amnoon & 26pm; closed Dec & Jan; €4), displaying the paraphernalia of war. Burrowing two or three floors below ground level, it has curiosity value rather than any great attractions. The best exhibits are British propaganda material and a poster cautioning troops against the dangers of VD, in which a portly officer, buttons popping with excitement, is propositioned by a German Fräulein ("Komm' mit mi'!").
