South of Granville the crowded towns and small resorts all compete for views and proximity to Mont St-Michel. ST-JEAN-LE-THOMAS is the first point from which you can walk at low tide across the bay to the abbey, although it's not a walk to take on a drunken or any other impulse. The tide, as they like to tell you, comes up faster than galloping horses. A special phone line (tel 02.33.50.02.67) gives advice on timing, or you can join a guided walk from the beach at GÊNETS with Chemins de la Baie (most days mid-April to Oct, depending on tides; tel 02.33.89.80.88; €5.50-8).Alternate spellings:: France, St-Jean-Le-Thomas, St-Jean-Le-Thomas and Gênets, St-Jean-Le-Thomas
