Several cross-Channel ferry companies still sail into Cherbourg's gare maritime, just east of the town centre (daily 5.30am11.30pm; tel 02.33.44.20.13). Services from Portsmouth, including the Superstar Express catamaran, which takes a mere 2hr 45min for the crossing, are operated by P&O (56 daily; tel 08.03.01.30.13, www.poef.com), and from Poole by Brittany Ferries (12 daily; 4hr 15min; tel 08.03.82.88.28, www.brittany-ferries.com). Irish Ferries also sail to Cherbourg, from Rosslare (24 weekly; tel 02.33.23.44.44, www.irishferries.com). Regular €1 shuttle buses connect the terminal with the tourist office and gare SNCF.Cherbourg's tourist office is at 2 quai Alexandre III (JulyAug MonSat 9am6.30pm, Sun 10am12.30pm; June MonSat 9am12.30pm & 26.30pm; SeptMay MonSat 9am12.30pm & 26pm; tel 02.33.93.52.02, www.ot-cherbourg-cotentin.fr). The gare SNCF, on avenue François-Miller/place Jean-Jaurès, is served by regular trains to Paris, Bayeux and Caen. Buses to Coutances (tel 02.33.98.13.38) and St-Lô, Valognes and Barfleur (tel 02.33.44.32.22) run from the gare routière opposite.
