From the bus and train stations it's about a ten-minute walk down rue Alfred Merle to the main square, place du Mandarous. The tourist office is on place du Beffroi in the centre of the old town (July & Aug Mon–Sat 9am–7pm, Sun 10am–12.30pm & 1–6.30pm; Sept–June Mon–Sat 9am–12.30pm & 2–6.30pm; tel 05.65.60.02.42, www.ot-millau.fr). Bikes and outdoor equipment can be rented from Roc et Canyon, 55 av Jean-Jaurès.

For an overnight stay, try the good-value Hôtel du Commerce, 8 place du Mandarous (tel 05.65.60.00.56, fax 05.65.60.96.50; under €30), with clean, well-furnished rooms; those at the back are best to avoid any noise from the square. A bit more expensive, but with more character, is Des Causses, in an attractive building on the N9 at 56 av Jean-Jaurès (tel 05.65.60.03.19, fax 05.65.60.86.90; €40–55), which has a reasonable restaurant (from €15). Slightly further out of town, by the river at 115 rue du Rajol, the clean, traditional Cévenol Hôtel (tel 05.65.60.74.44, [email protected]; €40–55; closed late-Nov to early-Mar; restaurant from €17.50–25 closed Mon & Tues lunch) offers a range of rooms, some with views of the causses. There's a good hostel about 1km down av Jean-Jaurès at 26 rue Lucien-Costes (tel 05.65.61.27.74), and scattered round about are several campsites: one of the best is Cureplat (tel 05.65.60.15.75; closed Oct–March) at 121 av de Millau Plage, on the left bank of the Tarn, north of the confluence with the Dourbie – take the bridge at the end of av Gambetta.
