From the vast and wonderful scruffiness of Marseille to the squalid naval base of Toulon, this stretch of the Mediterranean is definitely not what most people think of as the Côte d'Azur. There is no continuous corniche, few villas in the grand style, and work is geared to an annual rather than summer cycle. Cassis is the exception, but the overriding attraction here is Marseille a city that couldn't be confused with any other.
