Set in a steep part of the old town, the nearest métro station is Vieux-Lyon-St-Jean, but if you want to avoid the climb, get the funicular to Minimes and walk down the Montée du Chemin Neuf. Not far from the Vénissieux hostel, but a bit more expensive; the advantage is that it's out of earshot of the main ring road. €14.50 for a dorm bed, doubles also available. East along the N6 from Lyon or by bus #89 (direction "Ecully-Dardilly") from the Hôtel de Ville. Pleasant though expensive, with a tourist information bureau. €12.20 for a tent and two people.
