The gare routière and gare SNCF are situated a short way southeast of the cathedral district, facing the futuristic Centre de Congrès Vinci. Most TGVs stop at St-Pierre-des-Corps station, in an industrial estate outside the city, but frequent shuttles (or sometimes buses) provide a link to the main station. The excellent tourist office is on the corner of rue Bernard Palissy and busy boulevard Heurteloup (mid-April to mid-Oct Mon–Sat 8.30am–7pm, Sun 10am–12.30pm & 2.30–5pm; mid-Oct to mid-April Mon–Sat 9am–12.30pm & 1.30–6pm, Sun 10am–1pm; tel 02.47.70.37.37, www.ligeris.com), just across the square from the train and bus stations. It sells a Museum pass (carte multi-visites; €7.62) that lets you into the five city museums, including the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Musée du Gemmail, and can give information on Château Tours.

Tours does well for accommodation, with some great budget and two-star hotels in the area just west of the cathedral, though there's less choice at the higher end of the market. It's worth booking in advance at almost all times of the year.
