There are several inexpensive eating places around place St-Pierre, best of which must be the bustling Auberge St-Pierre, 6 place St-Pierre (tel 02.41.51.26.25; closed Sun & Mon out of season), which has menus from €9 up to €24. Opposite, at no. 1, Les Forges de St-Pierre (tel 02.41.38.21.79; closed Tues evening & Sun) specializes in grilled meat. Towards the southern end of town, L'Escargot, 30 rue du Maréchal Leclerc (tel 02.41.51.20.88; closed Sun evening & Wed, and mid-Aug to Sept) is a courteously old-fashioned place serving excellent regional fish and mushroom dishes on menus from €1022.50. For a special treat, head up to the Château, where Les Délices du Château (tel 02.41.67.65.60 closed Sun & Tues evening, & Mon) serves the most haute cuisine in town, with menus at €30.50 and €58.The best place to enjoy the wonderful local sparkling wines is at an outside table on place St-Pierre, or perhaps on the riverfront try the bar of Le Cristal hotel.
