Grotte du Grand Roc
France > Dordogne > Dordogne > Perigord Noir > Caves > Grotte du Grand Roc

As well as prehistoric cave paintings, you can see some truly spectacular stalactites and stalagmites in the area around Les Eyzies. Some of the best examples are off the D47 to Périgueux, 2km north of Les Eyzies, in the Grotte du Grand Roc (daily: Feb, March, Nov & Dec 10am–5pm; April–June, Sept & Oct 9.30am–6pm; July & Aug 9.30am–7pm; €6.50), whose entrance is high up in the cliffs that line much of the Vézère valley. There's a great view from the mouth of the cave and, inside, along some 80m of tunnel, a fantastic array of rock formations.
