Baie des Anges
Between Antibes and Nice, the Baie des Anges laps at twentieth-century resorts with two fine examples of concrete corpulence: the giant petrified sails with viciously pointed corners of the Villeneuve-Loubet-Plage marina, and an apartment complex, 1km long and sixteen storeys high, barricading the stony beach.

The old towns and softer visual stimulation lie inland. Cagnes is another artists' town – associated in particular with Renoir – as is St-Paul-de-Vence, which houses the wonderful modern art collection of the Fondation Maeght. Vence has a small chapel decorated by Matisse, and is a relaxing place to stay, if quiet in the evenings.
