Practicalities
France > Corsica > Sartène > Practicalities

Arriving in Sartène by bus, you'll be dropped either at the top of avenue Gabriel-Péri or at the end of cours Général-de-Gaulle. The tourist office, on rue Borgu (summer Mon–Fri 9am–noon & 2.30–6pm; tel 04.95.77.15.40), can help find accommodation in the area if the hotels listed below are full.

The only hotel in Sartène itself is Les Roches on rue Jean-Jaurès, a large family-run place just below the old town (tel 04.95.77.07.61, fax 04.95.77.19.93; €55–70); it commands panoramic views of the Vallée du Rizzanese and has a restaurant that serves hearty Corsican food. Otherwise try the Villa Piana, 1km out of town on the Propriano road (tel 04.95.77.07.04, www.lavillapiana.com; €85–100), an upmarket place, with a pool and tennis court, overlooking the Golfe de Valinco – or simply stay in Propriano, which has a wider choice of accommodation. The nearest campsite, Camping Olva (Les Eucalyptus), lies 5km along the D69 to Castagna (tel 04.95.77.11.58; closed Nov–April) – it offers a free bus service to and from Sartène.

As for restaurants, a dependable choice is Zia Paulina, tucked away at the end of an atmospheric alleyway, rue des Frères-Bartoli, in the vielle ville: Sartenais specialities dominate both their good-value €15 and €20 menus, and there's a generous selection of local wines to choose from. Cafés cluster around place Porta, and are great places for crowd-watching.
