Porto
L'Archivolto rue de l'Archivolto tel 04.95.73.17.48. With its candlelit, antique- and junk-filled interior, this would be the most commendable place to eat in the haute ville were the cooking a little less patchy and the prices fairer. But it still gets packed out: advance reservation recommended. Lunch menus around €15; evening à la carte only, around €23–25 for three courses. Open Easter–Oct.

Cantina Doria 27 rue Doria tel 04.95.73.50.49. Down-to-earth Corsican specialities at down-to-earth prices. Their popular three-course €14 menu – which includes the house speciality, aubergines à la bonifacienne – offers unbeatable value for the haute ville, though you'll soon bump up your bill if you succumb to the temptations of the excellent wine selection.

Centre Nautique In the hotel of the same name, this is Bonifacio's most chic breakfast venue: coffee, hot croissants, baguettes and freshly squeezed orange juice on a deck, with views of the bastion across the marina. Well worth splashing out €10 for, but get here early for the best tables.

De la Poste 6 rue Fred-Scamaroni. A cheap and cheerful pizza place serving oven-baked lasagne, spaghetti al brocciu, stuffed mussels and delicious pizzas (€7–10).

Les Quatres Vents On the quayside near the ferry dock tel 04.95.73.07.50. Lively little restaurant fronting the marina that's popular with locals and tourists alike. Their €17 menu is great value. Come early to get a table outside.

Stella d'Oro (Chez Jules) 23 rue Doria, near église St-Jean-Baptiste. À la carte place with stone walls and wood beams, whose top-notch Corsican dishes include the definitive merrizzane (stuffed aubergine) – the local speciality. They also do a famous spaghetti in lobster sauce and ravioli brocciu. Most main courses €13.
