Marina
Figari airport, 17km north of Bonifacio, handles flights from mainland France and a few charters from the UK. There's no bus service so you'll have to take a taxi into town – around €45. If you're coming by bus from other parts of the island you'll be dropped at the car park by the marina, close to most of the hotels. The tourist office is up in the haute ville, in the Fort San Nicro at the bottom of rue F. Scamaroni (July–Sept daily 9am–8pm; Oct–June Mon–Fri 9am–12.30pm & 2–5.15pm; tel 04.95.73.11.88, www.bonifacio.com); they can check for you which hotels have vacancies. Cars can be rented from: Avis, quai Banda-del-Ferro tel 04.95.73.01.28; Citer, quai Noel-Beretti tel 04.95.73.13.16; Hertz, quai Banda-del-Ferro tel 04.95.73.06.41. All of the above also have branches at the airport. If you need to change money, note that Bonifacio's only ATM, at the Société Générale on the quai J. Comparetti, frequently runs out of cash, so get there early in the day or you'll be at the mercy of the rip-off bureaux de change dotted around the town.

Finding a place to stay can be a chore, as Bonifacio's hotels are quickly booked up in high season; for a room near the centre, reserve well in advance. Better still, save yourself the trouble, and a considerable amount of money, by finding a room somewhere else and travelling here for the day; tariffs in this town are the highest on the island. The same applies to the large campsites dotted along the road to Porto-Vecchio, which can get very crowded.
