France for visitors

Quiberon
France > Brittany > Southern > Presqu'île de Quiberon > Quiberon

Much of the peninsula has become built up over the years, but it still holds only one true town, QUIBERON at its southern tip. Its most active area, Port-Maria, is home to the gare maritime for the islands of Belle-Île, Houat and Hoëdic, and also holds a fishing harbour that was once famous for its sardines. Stretching away to the east is a long curve of fine sandy beach, lined for several hundred yards with bars, cafes and restaurants. At its centre is a busy little park and miniature golf course, but few of the streets further back hold anything of great interest. The exception is the little hill that leads down to the port from the gare SNCF, where browsing around is rewarded with some surprisingly good clothes and antique shops.
