The bus from Rennes to Guer runs twice a day past the southern edge of the forest, stopping at Forges-les-Paimpont, while another bus runs around the north corner to Mauron again twice a day. Information on the forest can be picked up from the tourist office next to the lakeside abbey in the little market village of Paimpont (MarchMay daily except Mon 10amnoon & 25pm; JuneSept daily 10amnoon & 26pm; tel 02.99.07.84.23). Paimpont is the most obvious and enjoyable base for exploring the forest: it's right at the centre of the woods, backs onto a marshy lake whose shores are thick with wild mushrooms (cèpes), and has some excellent accommodation. At the Relais de Brocéliande in town (tel 02.99.07.81.07; www.le-relais-de-broceliande.fr; €3040), a real flower-bedecked delight, you can fill up for €22.50 in the restaurant under the gaze of stuffed animal heads. There's also a two-star municipal campsite on the edge of the village (tel 02.97.07.89.16; closed OctApril). Other accommodation in the forest includes a gîte d'étape-cum-chambre d'hôte in tiny Trudeau on the D40 (tel 02.99.07.81.40; dorm beds €7.93, B&B €3040) and a lovely hostel, at Le Choucan-en-Brocéliande, a couple of kilometres out on the Concoret road (tel 02.97.22.76.75; dorm beds €7; closed mid-Sept to mid-June).
