France for visitors

Central stretch: Gouarec to Redon
France > Brittany > Nantes–Brest Canal > Gouarec to Redon

Although the canal is limited to canoeists between Carhaix and Pontivy, it's worth some effort to follow on land, particularly for the scenery from Gouarec to Mur-de-Bretagne. At the centre is the trailing Lac de Guerlédan, created by the construction of a dam near Mur, and backed, to the south, by the enticing Forêt de Quénécan. Approaching by road, the canal path is most easily joined at Gouarec, covered by the five daily buses between Carhaix and Loudéac.

Pages in section ‘Gouarec to Redon’: Gouarec, Quénécan Forest, Pontivy, Josselin, Guéhenno and Lizio, Malestroit, Rochefort-en-Terre, Redon.
