Arrival, information and accommodation
France > Southwest > Poitou > Poitiers > Arrival, information and accommodation

The gare SNCF is on boulevard du Grand-Cerf, part of the ring-road system that encircles the base of the hill on which Poitiers is built. There is no gare routière: out-of-town buses, run by Rapides de Poitou (tel 05.49.46.27.45), leave from the train station. The tourist office is fifteen minutes' walk away at 45 place Charles-de-Gaulle (21 June to mid-Sept Mon–Fri 9.30am–7.30pm, Sat & Sun 10am–6pm; rest of year Mon–Sat 10am–6pm; tel 05.49.41.21.24, www.mairie-poitiers.fr), and will supply walkers with a guide to the regional opportunities: the GR364 sets out from here, reaching the Vendée coast via Parthenay. Bikes can be rented from Cyclamen, 49 rue Arsène-Orillard (tel 05.49.88.13.25), cars from outlets near the train station on boulevard du Grand-Cerf, such as Citer at no. 48 (tel 05.49.58.51.58).

There are plenty of hotels along boulevard du Grand-Cerf by the train station, but the area is not particularly salubrious; for more entertaining surroundings it's only a short uphill walk – boulevard Solférino, then to the right up the steep steps – to the town centre on place du Maréchal-Leclerc.
