France > Southwest > La Rochelle > Rochefort > Eating and drinking

Strolling through Rochefort, you should have no trouble finding somewhere to eat, though few establishments are culinary standouts. For inexpensive meals, try Le Galion, a self-service restaurant by the arsenal on rue Toufaire, and there's a more than adequate Vietnamese/Chinese, L'Asie, at 45 rue Toufaire. Probably the best restaurant in Rochefort is Le Tourne-Broche, 56 av Charles-de-Gaulle (tel 05.46.99.20.19; closed Sun night & Mon, & three weeks in Jan), specializing in grillades but offering fish and seafood as well; menus from €16.77. For an excellent morning café crème, try the local bar La Givelte. Le Comptoir des Îles, also on place Colbert, serves good beer, and you can finish the evening playing billiards, snooker or pool around the corner at Le Roller, 48 rue de la République.
