Académie de la Bière 17 rue Adolphe-Seyboth, near the church of St-Pierre. Strasbourg's most famous bierstub. Open daily till 4am.

Les Aviateurs 12 rue des S\'9curs. Les Aviat', as it's known locally, is regularly packed with Strasbourg's fashionable intelligentsia sipping cocktails or draught Guinness until 4am.

Café Brant place Sebastian-Brant. Atmospheric café close to the University. Outdoor tables make it perfect for summer meals.

Le Divan 6 impasse de l'Ecrevisse, off Place Broglie. Trendy music bar with mellow decor, open in evening until late; gay nights on Wed, closed Sun & Mon.

Montmartre 6 rue du Vieux-Marché-aux-Poissons. Shiny Parisian-style café near the cathedral.

Opéra Café place Broglie. Stylish and friendly café next door to the theatre, with a few outdoor tables.

La Salamandre 3 rue Paul-Janet tel 03.88.25.79.42. A popular bar-disco (free entrance) famous for its rock concerts (tickets €8–20) and theme nights (€3–5).

Tapas Café 16 rue du Bain-Finkwiller, south of Petit France, across the Pont des Moulins and next to the fire-station. Cool Spanish bar, with wonderful, affordable tapas and refreshing sangria.

Troc' Café 8 rue du Faubourg de Saverne tel 03.88.23.23.29. Easy-going café often hosting concerts or theme nights. Also does a good brunch. Closed Sun.
