Vercors
The Vercors Massif and Chartreuse Massif are very close to Grenoble, particularly the Vercors, which stretches out to the southwest, parallel to the River Drac on the west side of the N75. Chartreuse is north of the city, running up the west bank of the River Isère towards Chambéry.

Both ranges are relatively gentle, making them ideal practice for less experienced walkers. The Grenoble CIMES office publishes route descriptions. Neither massif is heavily populated, and the lack of industry makes them authentic and unspoilt Alpine destinations, popular with all types of energetic outdoor enthusiasts from cavers to mountain bikers.
