The tourist office, at 85 place du Triangle-de-l'Amitié (daily: July & Aug 8.30am–7.30pm; Sept–June 8.30am–12.30pm & 2–7pm; tel 04.50.53.00.24, www.chamonix.com), offers up-to-the minute walking and climbing information, as does the nearby Maison de la Montagne, which houses the Compagnie des Guides (daily: 8.30am–noon & 3.30–7.30pm; tel 04.50.53.00.88, www.cieguides-chamonix.com), the Office de Haute Montagne (daily: July to mid Aug 9am–noon & 3–6pm; tel 04.50.53.22.08, www.ohm-chamonix.com) and a meteorological service (tel 04.50.53.22.08). The tourist office also publishes a map of summer walks in the area (€4), while the guides run rock- and ice-climbing schools and will, if you wish, accompany you on any expedition they reckon is within your capabilities. There's an unnamed Internet café in the Galérie Blanc Neige, (daily 10am–noon & 4–8pm), just off rue Paccard.
