Annecy's restaurants churn out rather unimaginative fare to feed the tourist crowds. You'll find a string of inexpensive restaurants overlooking the canal along quai Perrière, and rue Ste-Claire, among which Le Pichet, 13 rue Perrière (menus from €12), is dependable. Le Petit Zinc (tel 04.50.51.12.93), nearby at 11 rue Pont-Morens, manages best to rise above the surrounding mediocrity, serving hearty Savoyard fare in a warm interior (lunch from €14, dinner from €23). One of the best venues is the Auberge de Savoie (tel 04.50.45.03.05; closed Wed; menus €23-45) on the far side of the canal at place St-François, serving Savoyard specialities and fish. Cheaper options include L'Entente, 5 rue de l'Île (tel 04.50.51.03.73; lunch from €8.25, dinner from €14), which offers decent North African cuisine, and Tutti Spaghetti, 84 rue Carnot, where you can choose from a wide choice of pasta dishes from €7.Rue Ste-Claire has some of the town's liveliest nightlife in the music-bars Pub Medievale and Red Zed. And for a quiet coffee, the bohemian-flavoured Café Cort, by the old town gate at the end of the street, will fit the bill.
